Daniel Cohn-Bendit’s Le Grand Bazar file: blocking notice removed
Following a review of the file and consultation with Daniel Cohn-Bendit, the blocking notice for documents in the Grünes Gedächtnis archive related to the controversy surrounding the book Le Grand Bazar (1975) has been removed.
The background: In 2001, Cohn-Bendit’s Frankfurt office was closed and its files placed in the Grünes Gedächtnis research archive of the Heinrich Böll Foundation. Among them was a set of documents that included material pertaining to the debate on controversial statements in the book Le Grand Bazar. This file was marked with a reference noting the private nature of some of the correspondence it contains by a member of Cohn-Bendit’s staff at the time. A blocking notice was therefore applied to it, and to other files containing personal documents and third-party correspondence. This practice is compliant with legal requirements, a fact that was communicated to journalists by the head of the archive.
Daniel Cohn-Bendit has since approved the release of the relevant documents. After a review by the head of the archive confirmed that the privacy rights of third parties would not be affected, we have chosen to make the documents related to the Le Grand Bazar complex available to the public.
