Southern Africa
Cape Town
The Heinrich Boell Foundation has been active in Southern Africa since 1989. For many organisations and individuals, we have become a partner for civic education and formation of networks, provider of international contacts, observer and analyst in the region. Our work in the Southern Africa is focused on four main areas. We- support sustainable development initiatives in the areas of biopolitics, water, and energy, with a particular focus on the new challenges that the ongoing climate change poses to Southern Africa
- foster political participation and constructive dialog between civil society and representatives of democratic institutions, especially the legislative
- address discrimination of minorities - in particular migrants and LGBT people - and aim at opening up the space for social, economic, and political participation of all different groups in society
- promote international South-South and South-North dialogue on current affairs that are of importance to Southern Africa
In all our activities, we engage a variety of stakeholders – including representatives from the executive and legislative, academia, civil society organisations, and activists who promote open dialogue and exchange, inclusiveness and social cohesion.
Director of the office in Cape Town is Dr. Antonie Nord.
