COP 26: Climate Conference in Glasgow

The 26th UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 26) will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from Oct. 31 to Nov. 12 and will be hosted by the United Kingdom in partnership with Italy. It had been postponed from November 2020 to 2021 because of the COVID 19 pandemic. Many civil society groups had lobbied for another postponement because of the inequitable participation opportunities caused by the pandemic.

The focus of this COP includes raising ambition levels, significantly increasing climate finance, and the issue of financial compensation for climate damages and losses. The Paris 1.5 degree target requires a rapid phase-out of coal, oil and gas, not empty "net zero" promises that rely on risky technologies or compensation mechanisms.
