Julia Leininger is a political scientist. Her research revolves around questions of democracy: How can democracy be protected and promoted worldwide? How can democracy and social coherence reinforce each other? How can democracy development be mapped in climate scenarios and with what consequences for sustainability policy?

Through policy advice and transformative research, she aims to contribute to sustainability transformation.

She leads the research program "Transformations of Political (Dis)Order: Institutions, Values and Peace" at IDOS (German Institute of Development and Sustainability, formerly German Development Institute, DIE).
