The archives are centred around Petra Kelly’s own writings and publications, political essays, speeches at demonstrations, lectures at numerous conferences in Germany, the USA, Japan, Australia, Ireland and many other countries, parliamentary initiatives in the German Bundestag, as well as press releases and interviews. Many texts are available not only in their published form, but also as manuscripts or in draft form.

Collection of Materials
Petra Kelly collected materials on all political fields in which she was involved. They served as a basic resource for her political activities, and she continually maintained and expanded them, as did her Bundestag office staff. The collection includes circulars, brochures, journals from political initiatives world wide, articles in newspapers and professional journals, expert opinions, etc. Special sections are devoted to the issues that were most important to Petra Kelly: the history of the country of Tibet and its human rights violations, as well as cancer in children.

Photographs, Posters, Videos
The archives also include a collection of professional photographs: portrait photos of Petra Kelly and photos of events in which she participated. Also included are video tapes and audio cassettes with recordings of events and programs. Petra Kelly also collected political posters, both from the Green Party and from other alternative movements.

Private Library
Petra Kelly’s private library, with approximately 5,000 books and other publications in all fields of her political activities, form a special section.

Personal Correspondence
For reasons of privacy protection, the extensive personal correspondence of Petra Kelly is not accessible to the public.


How To Find What You Are Looking For
The Petra Kelly Archives are a division of the Grünes Gedächtnis Archives and are open to visitors. An catalogue with key words, name and locational categories includes approximately 3,500 documents of the materials collection, as well as events participated in and trips undertaken by Petra Kelly. Individual listings include 1,500 papers, press releases, parliamentary initiatives and other texts (current as of 2011).

The archives staff would be happy to provide help with research. Appointments for assisted visits may be made by telephone or in writing. A one-time user fee is charged for archival materials made accessible in the reading room; and a fee is charged for photocopying.
