The Heinrich Böll Foundation has been active in Nigeria since 1995, and has had a project office with a local staff member since 1996. The country office in Lagos, established in 2002 with a staff member dispatched from the Foundation’s foreign division, promotes the country’s democratisation process by fostering and strengthening civil-society actors. Partner organisations are supported with basic and advanced training measures, the compilation of studies, and funding for their activities.

The country office monitors Nigeria’s country program with its three components:

The office organises events on current topics, offers capacity building measures to project partners, and provides consulting for project concept and implementation. Events at the office in Lagos are also organised in co-operation with partner organisations.
