The Foundation is deep-seated in civil society, and because of its foreign offices and several partner networks it has excellent access to political decision-makers. For many years, the foundation has participated in the UN climate change negotiations in manifold ways.

The Foundation aims to play a part in promoting a stronger voice of civil society actors, especially in developing countries, to foster the common development policy agenda. A special focus lies in the areas of burden sharing/mitigation, adaptation, technology transfer, financing, forest protection, and gender equality. A further objective is to mobilize citizens and raise awareness for issues of climate equity in the German, European and wider international public domain.
