With the recent national election in Thailand and results still up in the air on the exact nature of the next parliament, the future of Thai women’s and LGBTQ+ rights are also still in question.

The third webinar in this series delved into the adaptation of research into the feminist movement for developing alternate intersectional feminist research methodologies. Existing research methodologies were also analysed from a queer feminist lens given that research and academia are important pathways for narrative shaping. Participant engagement was invited through the Padlet, Zoom polls and Mentimeter.

The national elections of May 21st led to a historic victory of the conservative Nea Dimokratia, seem to have reshuffled the political landscape in the country, yet Greece is set for a second election in a month time. Michalis Goudis, Director of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, Thessaloniki Office - Greece, provides a read of the election result.

The second webinar in this series delved into the normalisation of the violation of bodily autonomy and self determination. It also explored the intersections and possible overlaps between feminism and intersex activism and the possibilities of building bridges between both these human rights movements. Through the discussion, the participants were engaged through a Zoom poll, Mentimeter and Padlet.

Current politics in Timor centers on personalities, history, and using ‘oil money’ as the solution to problems – it cannot cope with the rapidly changing the world and its domestic development challenges. Changing its way of doing politics and the way society is being governed is imperative to address structural issues in Timor’s development and maintain the relevancy and legitimacy of democratic institutions.

Within feminist thought, fragmentations are born out of the variance of lived experiences of individuals and the webinar series- ‘Power of Feminist Narratives: from Fragmentation to Solidarity’, organised by the Heinrich Boll Foundation in collaboration with One Future Collective, aimed at strengthening existing solidarities and creating new approaches for solidarity between feminists globally. This emerged in the context of populist anti-feminist narratives that sought to dilute feminist efforts.

This coming Sunday, Thailand is heading again to the polls. However, the specter of the military is ever-present, amidst former generals-cum-politicians competing to lead the country or via other ‘legal’ structures to ensure military power.

In May, activists, feminists, researchers, and human rights defenders from some 35 countries from all continents will gather at the Global Assembly in Frankfurt am Main to discuss their ideas and strategies for a world with more justice and human dignity.
