Liu Hongqiao

Liu Hongqiao is an independent consultant and journalist based in Paris, France. Her primary work focus is China’s emergence and its global impact on the environment, biodiversity, energy and the climate.

Hongqiao spent her early profession as an investigative journalist at prestigious news desks in China – Southern Metropolis Daily and Caixin Media, two outlets known for their fearless exposés on corruption, human rights violations, public health crisis, and the environmental justice movement. Starting from 2014 she applied her investigative journalistic skills and insights on the environmental and governance challenges in China to consultancy with various national and international non-profit organisations and charity foundations.

Hongqiao holds a Master of International Relations and Affairs (specialised in International Energy, with concentrations on Global Risks and African Studies) from the Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) of the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po Paris) and a BA degree in Communication Studies from Beijing Normal University. She is a Raisina Young Fellow (2022) and visiting fellow of the Africa-China Reporting Project at the University of the Witwatersrand (2013).
