Margarita Garfias Royo started her research career conducting urban research for public policy advocacy and independent consultancy work regarding costs infrastructure in Mexico. She holds a PhD in Gender & Built Environment from University College London aimed at understanding the links between urban infrastructure and Violence Against Women in public to provide public policy recommendations. She also has an MSc in Engineering for International Development and volunteering experience with Engineers Without Borders UK to conduct her Master’s research in community decision making for infrastructure interventions in an informal settlement in Kenya.
She has a strong record of collaborative work in small and large teams in academia and NGOs, both in the UK and internationally. She has successfully designed and applied a range of innovative interdisciplinary and mixed-methods tools to engage with different communities to develop appropriate, sustainable and context-specific solutions for infrastructural challenges.
