Seeraj Mohamed has worked on economic policy and development since the early-1990s. His career has bridged academia and government where he has endeavored to improve economic policymaking and its implementation. He has contributed towards rethinking how economics is taught in South Africa to take account of heterodox economics perspectives. He is the Deputy Director for Economics in the South African Parliamentary Budget Office and Adjunct Professor in the School of Government at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). He has been the Director of the Corporate Strategy and Industrial Development Research Programme at the University of Witwatersrand, Special Advisor to the Minister of Trade and Industry and a Council Member of the Human Resources Development Council. His PhD in Economics is from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His research interests are macroeconomics, international finance, financialisation, global corporate structure, industrial policy and economic development.
