
Sergey Rumyantsev, sociologist (PhD), was born in Baku (Azerbaijan) in 1973. He was actively involved in research conducted by the Institute of Philosophy, Social Sciences and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan since 2004.
Sergey obtained the fellowship from the Heinrich Boell Foundation South Caucasus Regional Bureau Scholarship Program in 2004. In 2005 together with Azerbaijani alumni of the program he established the independent network of social researchers “NOVATOR” in Baku (Azerbaijan).
In 2010-2012 Sergey took active part in research led by the Humboldt University Institute of European Ethnology (Berlin, Federal Republic of Germany). He is the author of more than 40 scientific articles. Areas of Sergey’s research interests are: Migration and Diaspora Politics, Nationalism and Conflict Studies, Memory Politics/Commemoration, Soviet National and Cultural Policy, Urban Sociology and Anthropology.
