Thokozile Madonko is a researcher and policy analyst at the Southern Centre for Inequality Studies, University of the Witwatersrand, where she manages the Public Economy Project. Her research focuses on the political economy of public finance, with a particular emphasis on public budgeting processes, fiscal governance, and equity in resource allocation. She has extensive experience in applied policy research and analysis on health financing, gender-responsive budgeting, and development cooperation. Through her work, she contributes to advancing transparency and accountability in South Africa’s national and subnational budget systems, as well as fostering scholarship and dialogue on the role of budgeting in shaping inclusive and sustainable development outcomes.
