The Heinrich Böll Foundation collaborates with 16 state-level foundations in each of Germany’s 16 states. The state-level foundations are programmatically independent, however, they do receive regular financial contributions from the federal Heinrich Böll Foundation.
Twice a year the Members’ Assembly, the Foundation’s highest decision-making body, meets; it comprises 49 members, 16 of which represent the state-level foundations. This is meant to introduce regional issues and perspectives into the Foundation’s programmatic discussions and planning processes.
Over the last few years, co-operation between the federal Foundation and the state-level foundations has seen a qualitative leap through joint projects, among them “Sonne, Wind & Wir!” (The Sun, the Wind, and We!), a series of events on a “Green New Deal,” and, most recently, "Hochinklusiv - Zusammenhalt in einer vielfältigen Gesellschaft" (Highly Inclusive – Cohesion in a Diverse Society).
