The Gendered Geopolitics of Afghan Visual Arts: the Production of Afghan Visual Knowledges in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran in times of On-going Insecurity and the Construction of the Nation-State

The PhD project titled “The Gendered Geopolitics of Afghan Visual Arts: the Production of Afghan Visual Knowledges in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran in times of On-going Insecurity and the Construction of the Nation-State” examines the potential of visual arts for Afghan artists living in these Islamic republics to produce knowledge about Afghanistan and embodied experiences through visual arts.
Examining the idea of embodied epistemologies from feminist geopolitics I analyse the “potential” artists’ work has to undermine and reproduce prevailing visual representations about the local and geopolitical realities of Afghans in Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan.
