Chulumanco Mihlali Nkasela is a queer artivist and community leader, with majors in Women and Gender Studies and Political Studies. Chulu has worked with Equal Education, an organization that advocates for quality and equity in basic education in South Africa. In 2018, they were elected to the #UniteBehind inaugural secretariat, an organization that was set up to tackle state capture and corruption in the country. Chulu was recognized by the Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South Africans as one of the most influential young people in the country in 2020, in the civil society category. Chulu has a strong scholarly inclination and has some work published in creative writing too. Towards the end of 2020 into the beginning of 2021, they worked with Tshisimani Centre for Activist Education to produce the isiXhosa translation of the Pocket Queerpedia, a toolkit of a glossary of terms used in and about the LGBTQIA+ community. Chulu is currently the Education Coordinator at the African Climate Alliance.
