Food production rarely has anything to do with small-scale farming, traditional craftsmanship, or unspoiled nature. Today, it is primarily a lucrative business for a few large corporations that divide the fields and markets among themselves. And the trend toward concentration of power continues. Takeovers such as that of Monsanto by Bayer or the division of the Kaisers/Tengelmann markets between Rewe and Edeka are just the tip of the iceberg, which includes problematic market power and significant political influence. In addition, industrial agriculture is responsible for serious climate and environmental problems worldwide.
The 2017 Corporate Atlas is a collaborative project between the Heinrich Böll Stiftung, Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung, Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland, Oxfam Deutschland, Germanwatch and Le Monde diplomatique.
