Ocean Atlas
Without the sea, there would be no life on our planet. It largely regulates the climate, provides us with food, and supplies energy. In addition, it is an important transport route, a recreational area, and a source of aesthetic pleasure. But the sea is under stress, because the old principle of “freedom of the seas” has led to overfishing, species loss, and immense pollution of the oceans.
That is why our relationship with the sea must be based on sustainable and equitable principles. The 2017 Ocean Atlas provides the data, facts, and context for this. In numerous articles and over 50 graphics, it shows the poor state of the world's oceans, why this is so, and what needs to be done to improve the situation.
