Background webinar on IPCC: Equity in climate modelling
Dear colleagues,
the IPCC is currently in the early stages of its 7th Assessment Report (AR7). Global mitigation pathways are among the most widely recognized and cited features of IPCC reports, and they will continue to shape climate policy at global, regional and national levels.
However, existing climate modeling has been shown to project inequitable futures, perpetuating global inequalities in income, consumption, and energy use, while increasing the number of people exposed to the risk of hunger and endangering food security.
Ahead of the next IPCC meeting in Hangzhou, China, from 24-28 February, please join us for a media background webinar in which two IPCC delegates will unpack a policy brief that shows the importance of equity in IPCC modelling and scenarios, and what needs to change in AR7.
The webinar is scheduled for 19 February, 2025, Wednesday, at 3pm CET/2pm UTC/7.30pm IST
Please register here.
Speakers:
- Tejal Kanitkar, Associate Professor in the Energy, Environment, and Climate Change Program, at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru
- T. Jayaraman, Senior Fellow, Climate Change with M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai
We look forward to seeing you at the webinar.
