Kristina Hänel, born in 1956, worked at Pro Familia centers and at Stimezo clinics (Stichting Medisch Verantwoorde Zwangerschapsonderbreking) in the Netherlands after completing her studies. Since 2001, she has maintained her own practice in Giessen. She is a board-certified physician in general medicine and has completed advanced training in emergency medicine, anesthesia, and sex therapy.
She was a founding member of Wildwasser Gießen, an organization dedicated to combating sexual abuse of girls, and served as a lecturer at JLU Gießen on the topic of childhood sexual trauma. For many years, Hänel worked as an emergency physician in the emergency medical services.
Among other things, she is a member of the Working Group on Women’s Health in Medicine, Psychotherapy, and Society (Arbeitskreis Frauengesundheit in Medizin, Psychotherapie und Gesellschaft e.V.), Pro Familia e.V., and the German Society for Sex Research, and offers therapeutic riding with a focus on traumatized children and adolescents in integrative groups. She describes her work in*The Lioness’s Den: A Doctor’s Stories About Abortion*, Ulrike Helmer Verlag, 1994; 1st revised edition, 2018. She wrote the book under the pseudonym Andrea Vogelsang. Her new book, in which she discusses the events since she filed her complaint, will be published by Argument-Verlag in March.
Kristina Hänel is an active athlete, a marathon runner, and competes internationally for the German Triathlon Union’s national age-group team. In her free time, she plays Klezmer music and performs at events such as Holocaust remembrance ceremonies.
