Biography

Awa Fall-Diop, born in 1956, is a feminist coach and gender expert with over 30 years of experience in and about West Africa. She specialises in advising feminist movements, as well as in gender mainstreaming, sexual reproductive health rights, the empowerment of women and girls, participative practices, and organisational development. She has extensive experiences in advising and training major feminist organisations such as the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), MeToo International, Urgent Action Fund Africa, Centre ODAS, Femmes et Droits Humains (Mali), and Sœurs pour Sœurs – Tong Laa Taaba (Burkina Faso). She has frequently collaborated with international NGOs and donors.

For many years, she has worked with development agencies and public institutions, especially in the areas of gender analysis, evaluation, participative practices, and capacity building.

She has worked for actors such as USAID/MSI, Feed the Future, LUX Development, and the New Field Foundation and advised government agencies in Senegal on gender integration, evaluation, and the development of strategies.

Between 2005 and 2007, as Minister for Relations with National and Sub-Regional Parliamentary Institutions in Dakar, she was tasked with co-ordinating and brokering between the federal government, parliament, and regional parliamentary bodies.

Between 1977 and 2005 she was a primary school teacher at the École Algor Dioum and the École Gibraltar – Diourbel in Dakar.

In 1983-84 she was certified as a teacher (CAP/CEAP) with the Ministry of Education in Dakar.

Between 1978 and 1980 she studied at the Université Cheikh Anta-Diop in Dakar, graduating with a Diplôme Universitaire d'Études Littéraires in Business Sciences.

She is a member of the Forum of African Feminists as well as of the Forum of Senegalese Feminists.

In 1996 she was the recipient of the Ashoka Changemaker Award.
