Our alumni network and program

The global Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung network counts more than 5,650 former scholars, including more than 600 international alumni. Once they enter the workforce, they continue to champion the Green idea and support the values and goals of the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung in their professional, social, and private lives. International alumni foster connections and friendly relations between their home country and Germany.

Our alumni program

We keep in touch with our alumni after they complete their scholarships. We keep them updated on our work, offer specialized events, and encourage them to serve on our committees.
We help them network and gather our alumni abroad for events at our international offices.

Occasionally, we invite international alumni to Germany for research visits.
We keep our databases up to date and keep track of our alumni's careers.

Alumni network and get involved:

Many former scholars maintain close ties with the Foundation long after the end of their scholarships. They contribute their expertise and benefit from the services offered by our Green network.

To encourage exchange and foster our Green network, the Presidents of the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung regularly host all of our committee members, many of which are our alumni, at a Foundation-wide networking event.

We help our alumni get connected with other alumni, the Foundation's specialist departments, our regional foundations, or our international offices.

Alumni can also continue to use our tool "Studynet" as an internal exchange platform beyond the end of their scholarship. We are happy to assist alumni who need fresh access credentials.

Alumni serve on our committees: Many are involved in the selection process of the Scholarship Department as academic advisors and members of the selection committee. Others serve on the Foundation's advisory boards, attend the General Meeting, or contribute to the Green Academy.

Alumni stay updated:

We publish a bi-annual newsletter to keep our alumni informed about current developments at the Scholarship Department and the Foundation as well as our events, publications, and other activities.
The Presidents of the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung hold a regular "Digital Presidents' Talk" on current political topics. We also invite alumni to Berlin for the annual Alumni Salon, which is also dedicated to current political topics.

Alumni co-create our program:

Our alumni co-create the ancillary program by offering classes, workshops, and seminars for current scholars, and by conducting training sessions at our offices in the different states of Germany as well as at our GreenCampus. In specialist groups and at regional meetings, our alumni continue their interdisciplinary exchange and build new networks. As mentors, they pass on their experience to new scholars and young alumni.

In our alumni association, the Verein der Ehemaligen Stipendiat*innen der Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung e.V., our alumni network and host a broad range of events for former and current scholars. The association makes available funds to support such initiatives led by our scholars and alumni.
