Director of the Heinrich Böll Foundation's Rio de Janeiro office since January 2024. Regine is a political scientist and holds a PhD from the Free University of Berlin (FU-Berlin). Her background is based on three decades of experience in the Brazilian Amazon as an international aid worker and researcher, focusing her research on natural resource governance and organized crime, rural conflicts, social inclusion and exclusion and violence, land use change and biodiversity loss, climate change and tipping points.
In addition to her academic work, Regine has always been involved in interdisciplinary and intercultural training. These experiences with dialogical processes of participatory learning, which often point the way to combating prejudices and escaping dead ends, combine very well with the Heinrich Böll Foundation's approach to democracy advocacy in Brazil.
