Dr. Roman Schmidt is Director of the Unit "Democracy and Society" at the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Berlin. Previously, he served as a desk officer in the executive staff of Federal Minister Robert Habeck at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and as a researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen. 

He holds a joint doctorate in contemporary history from Bielefeld University and Sciences Po Paris.
