Power of Feminist Narratives: From fragmentation to solidarity
An online discussion series.
How do we contribute to feminist solidarities? Which narratives are discussed among feminists? Do the narratives we use actually resonate?
What are the implications of further fragmentation among feminists and how might we prevent it? What are the key commonalities for building feminist solidarity within the current gender backlash?
This discussion series on feminist narratives aims to raise awareness of the need for greater unity among feminists. We sometimes do not realise the harm that may be done by excluding groups of people or making the wrong language choices.
Ultra-conservative and fundamental forces are using our (queer, feminist) narratives against us, and employing them as political propaganda.
The feminist movement is the easiest to attack and its opponents are twisting its words in an attempt to deceive the population about topics such as same-sex unions, abortion, transgender rights and women’s rights and to shift the focus away from other burning social issues.
We want to understand how various approaches can contribute to a feminist narrative of solidarity (or any other common vision) by making a concerted effort to understand one another’s struggles, build bridges, and develop a narrative of "distinguished commonality" for a more powerful proactive response.
The Power of Personal Stories: How trans-inclusive narratives can change the discourse
7 February 2023, 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. CET
In this episode we talk to activists who are building bridges between feminists and transgender movements. It is not, after all, a competition to see who suffers more oppression – women or transwomen (or transgender people in general). Why do we need alliances between cisgender and transgender activists? Why is it important to see transfeminism as a part of feminism, and how do we portray it by telling personal stories?

14 February 2023, 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. CET
In this online discussion, we explore which narratives might help educate the public and generate empathy. We also discuss how we can place people’s wellbeing above societal norms and allow them to maintain bodily integrity. What can feminism do to unite these struggles?

How important is intersectional deep analysis in overcoming constructed binary categories such as traditional/modern, authentic/colonial, global/local, and East/West? What is the role of language in changing the epistemological landscapes of sexuality and gender? What kind of “translation” do feminist researchers have to do to make feminist narratives more inclusive? The panel discusses these and other issues relating to feminist research.
