We rarely ask ourselves what we are actually eating. Yet eating is not just a culinary pleasure, but also a political and ethical decision. What does the schnitzel on our plate have to do with the Amazon rainforest? And how is it connected to rural poverty and hunger in Cameroon? How are the animals we eat kept, and what impact does factory farming have on our climate?

All these questions cannot be answered simply by looking at the packaging of sausage and meat in the supermarket. That is precisely why the Heinrich Böll Foundation and BUND are committed to providing information about the many dimensions of meat production and consumption and to highlighting alternatives.

In traditional farming, the land must provide sufficient feed for the animals. Manure and slurry are spread on the farm's own fields and are good for soil quality. This is the only way to create local nutrient cycles that constitute forward-looking and fair agriculture and also take animal rights into account.

With our atlas, we would like to invite you on a journey around the world and give you insights into the global connections associated with our meat consumption. Because only informed and critical consumers can make the right decisions.
