Lamya Kaddor is a scholar of Islam and pedagogy, an Islamic religious educator, and a publicist. In 2010, she co-founded the Liberal Islamic Federation. She trained Islamic teachers at the University of Münster and temporarily took over the tasks of the chair for Islamic religious education. She was furthermore involved in the first translation of the Quran for children and writing the first textbook for Islamic religious education.

She has led several youth prevention programs (against Islamism, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia) and led a project at the University of Duisburg-Essen on anti-Semitism during adolescence, funded by the Federal Agency for Civic Education. Since 2003, she has taught Islamic religion - most recently at the Landfermann-Gymnasium in Duisburg.

Kaddor has written widely acclaimed columns and has received numerous awards. She was also named one of the ten most influential Muslim women in Europe. 

Since 2021, she is a member of the German Bundestag for the electoral district Duisburg-South. She is the spokesperson for domestic policy of the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group, a sitting member of the Committee on Internal Affairs and Community and a deputy member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (reporting on the Middle East).
