Heinrich Böll Foundation

The focal points of the offices are supporting democratic and constitutional reform processes in the region and strengthening civil society. They work with journalists, lawyers and political scientists, initiate media debates, organize workshops and advise reform-oriented political forces and groups.

Since 1 March, Steffen Heizmann is the new CEO of the Berlin-based Heinrich Böll Foundation. Prior to that, Heizmann, a political scientist by training, was director of the Foundation‛s International Division.

The events at the Heinrich Böll Foundation are open to the general public. Their purpose is to promote the political education of citizens.

Since late 2015, the Heinrich Böll Foundation is in the process of setting up a new office in Paris, which will focus on four main activities: energy transition and climate protection, greening the economy, democracy’s crisis of confidence, and European politics.

Our main focus is to boost civil society in Ukraine and Belarus. To achieve this, we offer training programmes and assistance, host public discussion meetings in Ukraine, and promote civil-society organisations and initiatives in Belarus.

For now, the revocation of the Heinrich Böll Foundation’s registration by the Russian Federation marks the end of 30 years of dedicated work in this country.

The Heinrich Boell Foundation (HBF) in the South Caucasus (SC) contributes to the democratization process of the countries of the SC. We support initiatives, which form and strengthen an inclusive political culture that opens room for public participation on democratic development, socio-ecological transformation and gender democracy.

Our Prague office manages the Foundation’s projects in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary and Croatia, supporting civil-society groups and empowering green movements within the region. The main focus of our regional activities is on the future of European democracy and on energy and climate policy.

The gender-democratic principles of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, resolved when the Foundation was reestablished, are as relevant as ever.
