Feminist perspectives on sustainability ahead of the Earth Overshoot Day 2022. This is a series of interviews with feminist change-makers committed to fighting for people and the planet.

Every year since 2009, the European Democracy Conference has brought together European voices from academia, politics and the public to discuss a key European policy issue.

The conference Stockholm+50 takes place five decades after the 1972 UN Conference on the Human Environment. We not only want to look back at 50 years of global environmental policy, but also look forward and ask: What can we do better so that the necessary transformation still succeeds? 

Within the energy transition, international trade in green hydrogen and its derivatives will play an important role. But what opportunities and risks does this entail for exporting countries in the global South? What framework is needed to ensure that investments and trade develop from the start with sustainability in mind? The Heinrich Böll Foundation and Bread for the World are exploring these questions in a joint project.

The freedom to decide over one’s own body and reproduction is still a privilege in today’s world. Whether or not to have children and how to raise them is a very personal choice, but also a choice with political implications: Who is encouraged or forced to have children? Who has access to resources and the means to have children? Whose parenthood is the subject of reappraisal or prevention? How do laws, policies, and public health programmes influence people’s access to reproductive self-determination?

April 6, 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the outbreak of the Bosnian War - the first war in Europe after World War 2. The reality in Bosnia and Herzegovina to this day is a succession of increasingly severe crises.

We are following the work of the IPCC, currently in the 7th Assessment Cycle, particularly with regard to the topics of net-zero, “overshoot” of 1.5 degrees, and high-risk geoengineering technologies such as solar geoengineering (SRM) and technological CO2 removal (Carbon Dioxide Removal, CDR).

Our focus on the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 26) in Glasgow, Scotland. Among other things, the focus of this COP will be on raising ambition, significantly increasing climate finance, and the issue of financial compensation for climate damage and loss.

As an international player, development policy issues are of great importance to the Foundation and are considered in many topics. We devote intensive attention to them at the Berlin Forum for Global Cooperation.
