Preserving peace on the European continent is increasingly challenging. And security guarantees by the US and NATO have become more demanding. Is the EU ready to become a credible security actor?

In this dossier, activists from communities affected by nuclear weapons production, use and testing tell their stories. They are highlighting that the destructive effects of nuclear weapons do not belong to the past, but to the present.

For half a century, security in the Euro-Atlantic space was based on confidence-building measures between NATO and Russia, and the assumption that China would not represent a significant security challenge. This approach has come under pressure due to Russia's wars in Eastern Europe and due to China's growing revisionism.

How to succeed with international climate cooperation? Our Foreign Policy Conference on January 13, 20 and 27 January 2022 was focused on these questions.

Worldwide we are witnessing the return to great power rivalry, and – as a reaction – the calls for strategic sovereignty of the European Union are gaining strength. But how can the EU navigate through a more competitive world and maintain its core values at the same time? These questions were at the core of our 21st Foreign Policy Conference.
