The Anne Klein Women’s Award
In honour of Anne Klein the Heinrich Böll Foundation has created the Anne Klein Women’s Award. Anne Klein, a dedicated lawyer and openly lesbian politician, has been a pioneer of feminist causes. She served as the first feminist Women’s Senator in Berlin’s state government.
The prize is annually awarded to women who have shown exemplary commitment for making gender democracy a reality. The award is endowed with 10.000 €.
The Anne Klein Women's Award was made possible by a generous donation from Anne Klein. Many thanks for this!
Anne Klein Women's Award 2026
Announcement
The next award ceremony will take place on 06 March 2026 in Berlin. These first Fridays in March, when we welcome and celebrate the awardee in Berlin, are very special evenings. There are great speeches and touching moments. Together with the awardees, we take a look at their challenging work and the situation in their countries, in Syria, Colombia, India, Serbia, Mexico, South Africa, Germany and Turkey - to name but a few. For some, the publicity the award creates is almost like life insurance and protection for their courage. For the 10th anniversary, we visited the women. Here they explain what the Anne Klein Women's Prize means to them.
We hereby announce the Anne Klein Women's Prize 2026!
We invite you to nominate candidates for the 2026 Anne Klein Women’s Award. Please use no more than three A4 pages to present your candidate and also provide reasons for your choice.
Further details and nomination criteria can be found here below.
The closing date for submissions is 15th September 2025.
